Maundy Thursday 2008

Thursday's services began with an opportunity to receive individual absolution. It made quite an impression on our 8-year old daughter. I am amazed at the connections she is making about faith and the life of our Savior.

Following the absolution, our Pastor said, "The God of peace will sanctify you wholly and keep your spirit, soul, and body sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, and He will do it. Go in peace." R said to me, "Jesus did it all for us." Yes, honey, He did!

The homily for Maundy Thursday (night of mandates/commands from Jesus to his disciples) reminded us specifically of His command to "Take, eat; this is My body, which is given for you." And "Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."

The stripping of the Altar impressed upon R that the Lord was leaving us for a time, but that those who witnessed it didn't know or trust that He would return.
