Barnacles

Andree Seu used a line in a column of hers for World last year, and it has stuck with me all this while as I ponder how and when to add more responsibilities to my life whether they be for me personally, or for my children. As a homeschooling family, and as a family with transportation issues (we only have one regularly working vehicle) we have to consider how these additions might affect each other and our use of the car. It calls for planning and communication and we usually get that accomplished well, but at times things slip through ... then it can be messy.

I wrote about that line in a recent article for CHEC's Support Group Leaders. (My husband and I serve as CHEC's Support Group Leaders Liaison.)

But a picture my daughter took of me as we were preparing our church's Lenten meal a couple of week ago made me think of that line again from Andre Seu, "As grown ups we accrue duties like barnacles."

I was washing and seperating the split peas and they were attaching themselves to my hands and fingers.
This is my way of also sharing that I've assumed more responsibility that prevents me from participating on the blogosphere as much as I have in the past. I'll still be around and blogging and looking at other blogs as I am able. I'm not going away, I'm just time-limited, so comments may be fewer and farther between as I access other blogs. Not because I'm not thinking of y'all and enjoying your blogs, but commenting for me takes time as I try to say just the right thing.

Well, I'll still know when you post, even if it's infrequently, because you've been on my Reader for a long time.

We'd love to hear from you when you do get time!

Just finished reading your article. Well done! My pastor wrote a book called "Don't Waste Your Life," and I think it's along these same lines. Not that we need to spend every waking minute doing something "productive for the Lord" (as if He needs our service), but that we need to do the tasks He gives us unto him, whether it's raising a family, serving on a committee, or working in the world.

I can relate--I haven't been commenting as much lately either (but I'm still managing to find time to post pretty regularly!).

And I, too, love reading Andree Seu's columns!
