Familiarity with Hymns

R really enjoyed the hymns at church today as she was so familiar with two of them!

She really belted it out to "My Hope is Built on Nothing Less" (LSB 575) and "Go, My Children, with My Blessing" (LSB 922). The last hymn we used to sing her to sleep with when she was an infant.

I enjoyed the hymn "Your Table I Approach" (LSB 628, quoted below) today. What we sing should reflect our theology and this hymn does that.

"Your table I approach; Dear Savior, hear my prayer.
Let not an unrepentant heart prove hurtful to me there.

Lord, I confess my sins, and mourn their wretched bands;
A contrite heart is sure to find forgiveness at Your hands.

Your body and Your blood, once slain and shed for me;
Are taken at Your table, Lord, in blest reality.

Search not how this takes place, this wonderous mystery;
God can accomplish vastly more than what we think could be.

O grant, most blessed Lord, that earth and hell combined
May not about this sacrament raise doubt within my mind.

Oh, amy I never fail to thank You day and night
For Your true body and true blood, O God, my peace and light."

I pray that this will give us the inspiration to continue to teach R hymns at home!

Great hymn--I don't know that one. Unfortunately the church we go to now doesn't sing as many hymns as the church I was a member of before moving here. I miss it. I am trying to make a point to teach them to Anja at home and sing them here.

C.S. Lewis once called hymns "5th rate poems set to 6th rate music." That's kind of how I feel about "praise and worship" songs today, for the most part.
