Yesterday on the way to church we passed a Pentecostal church. Rae, who is 10, asked if they celebrate Pentecost every Sunday.
I told her no. I said I had a few friends who were (notice the past tense) Pentecostal. They believe in speaking in tongues and prophesying in a misrepresentation of what occurred on Pentecost.
Rae said, "they turn it into a work then. And nothing we do can ever save us, it’s only Christ who can."
Guess which Momma was grinning from ear to ear? Guess she’s been paying attention at church and Bible Study on Wednesday nights.

Conundrums
Why do I love the smell of grass being cut when I’m not the one doing the mowing, but hate it when I am doing the mowing?
Why do our most profound joys and sorrows come from the same source?
Why is it that we recognize and complain the most about sin in others that we ourselves are guilty of?
Why does Facebook keep changing?
How can Lost possibly wrap up its storyline in the mere 2-hours (minus commercial time) allotted to it on Sunday evening?

Random Thoughts
1. I’ve lost between 60 and 70 pounds this past year. So you’d expect that I’d need new clothes and such. One thing I didn’t count on and have noticed was that my shoes don’t fit me anymore. Not only are they too wide, but they are also too long.
2. The more you live in a state of poverty, the longer it takes to escape it. It is such a snare, and most folks truly are helpless to leave it. So many things take so much more time and energy when you don’t have the funds to dig out. When there’s nothing more to scrimp on, there’s no way to save. It’s a very depressing cycle.
3. It is an amazing realization that God is involved in the tiny details of our life. Just when you think you can’t stand another moment of defeat, He lifts you up by sending blessings through others. Those blessings are particularly sweet. Thank you, Lord!
4. I am most comfortable when I am serving others. To share knowledge and help others along the path is such a joy for me. Good thing the three jobs I have are all in service to others! I am blessed!
5. Watching my children struggle to fulfill their dreams is difficult. It produces a pain like no other and fills me with such longing to help. Being unable to help is so excruciatingly hard.
6. I enjoy surprising my children with the song selections on my Ipod. I delight in their amazement when they find I enjoy something they didn’t think I would.
7. Despite the somber tone of these thoughts, I am basically happy these days. I wish I could change some reality issues for my girls and myself. But, those things, while important and substantial, are temporal issues and I want instead to focus on the positive aspects of my life. I am blessed with friends who care, a really great sister who is the best listener in the world, and daughters who are amazing.
