Turkeys and Feathers and Little Girls, oh my!

Ever since watching "The Wizard of Oz" for three days last weekend, we have been saying, something and something and something, oh my! It's not old..... yet.

This photo was taken yesterday.

That blubberish figure with her hands raised is me, lest the profile picture have you thinking that was an accurate representation of me NOW.

The profile picture is more of an inspiration thing. I'm not deluded enough to think I'll return to that youthfulness again, but I do desire to lose weight and be more healthful for myself and my family. I wanna run around someday with my grandkids and be the grammy with all the energy (until they go home and I collapse). ;-)

Ok-- back from bunny trail... the picture yesterday was at our homeschool support group's little girls get-together where we learned this song:

My Turkey (song to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot")

I have a turkey, big and fat

He spreads his wings, (Fan hands at hips)

And walks like that (Strut)

His daily corn he would not miss (Pretend to eat corn)

And when he walks, he sounds like this, ('Gobble, Gobble, Gobble')

And then they learned the chorus to "For the Beauty of the Earth." I was introducing that hymn by talking about how we often overlook all the "ordinary" blessings in our lives or take other blessings for granted and this song can help us to remember to be thankful for everything. One little girl raised her hand and inquired, "What's a hymn?" I told it was a song we sing in praise to God. So I'm thankful for the opportunity yesterday to share what a hymn is.

We also made little turkeys to take home. Here is R's

We ended our time together by playing a little game. Each girl had a partner and between the two of them they were supposed to keep a feather afloat by blowing in it. Very shortly we had giggle-eruptous and it's awfully hard to keep a feather afloat when you're giggling.

And as the saying goes, "A nice time was had by all."

What tune is that sung to?

Did you teach that to your kids? That might explain a lot...
