I come from a military family, having grown up an Air Force brat. I'm ever so grateful for the sacrifices of those in the military so those who are not in the military enjoy the freedoms we have in the United States of America.
When my only brother was off protecting us in Desert Storm I bought a pin to wear that said, "For those who have fought for it, freedom has a taste the protected will never know." He thought that sentiment was "spot on!"
I think it is true, especially given the lack of commitment from the American people spouted today about the war we are in against terrorism.
So thanks to those who serve gladly, without just compensation, and with such sacrifices that we may never know about.
Definition: salute ~ to pay respect to or honor by some formal act, as by raising the right hand to the side of the headgear, presenting arms, firing cannon, dipping colors, etc.
I salute my Dad who served in Korea.
I salute his brother, Fred, who served in WWII.
I salute my (former) brother-in-law Wesley who served in Vietnam.
I salute my cousin Chuck who served in Vietnam.
I salute my brother who served in Desert Storm.
I salute my nephew who is active duty now in the Navy.
I pray that all those serving now will come home to loving families and friends! May God protect you wherever you serve.
