Well, the precious kitties are gone now having been picked up by the Humane Society. It seems our fair city has a law and the animals must be "reported" to the Humane Society where they can held, or they can held by us so long as we keep them crated. Well, that wasn't going to work well for us or the kitties we though. At least at the Humane Society they can run around some.
The Humane Soceity keeps them for five days in case someone is looking for them. On the sixth day they are adoptable. Then, after ten days, one of the rescue organizations can come and get them. IF however, in that period from the sixth day to the tenth day their facility becomes too full, they may "euthanize" them.
It was hard. But some of us can't live next door (although some days that sounds like a good plan).
