Our Sunday

So yesterday was the ususal 3-ring circus getting ready for church.

As I was the first awake, I decided to take the first shower and let everyone else take a few more moments of sleep. When I was stepping into the bathtub with my right foot, it slipped, smacking the side of the tub with my foot, and my left leg went crashing into the shower door track. Ouch! I actually saw stars it hurt so bad. So there's a lovely hurtful knot on the inside of my left knee that is wonderful colors, while the outside of my right foot is bruised and sore.

With only one bathroom, two teenage girls (who now have contacts -- or as R says eye tacks), and two members of the family who are so allergic to mornings it's like waking the dead, Sunday mornings are rife with stress. We cannot have people take showers the previous evening due to stringy hair... So, I'm now adding this rather mundane situation to my prayer list.

We used DSIII from LSB which is one of my favorites! That put me in a better mood from the hustle and bustle of getting there. We began with "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" (461) which is one of my favorites and hearing the lovely voices in our church truly sing out this song in harmony gladdened my heart. The sermon was from Revelation 22 about how we are known by God by name and with His mark upon our forehead from baptism we are rightly the children of God because of Christ's propitiative death.

At church I had forgotten that we were having a voter's meeting and it was my week to count. So, I had to make a choice which to do as we were due at a graduation celebration in the afternoon. Of course, I counted. We don't like to keep money in the church overnight as we've been broken into too many times.

Anyway, after church, we came home and there ensued griping and sniping as if we hadn't even been in the house of the Lord early that day. What is it with mouths that refuse to be useful and polite instead of hurtful and mean? What is with huge boulders (forget the chips) on shoulders that are permanently attached? Ugh!

I also was well on my way to a stress headache for a variety of reasons which means that medicated intervention was necessary. I cannot believe how quickly I fell asleep after the big girls and hubby went to the graduation celebration. R was engrossed with watching Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in her room, and the dogs were blissfully quiet.

The rest was just what I needed, and I awoke feeling much better. And, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington was on TV which made me happy as I really love that movie! Jimmy Stewart at his best!

Then, as I prepared our evening meal -- we call it dinner -- the bar-b-que had a freaky thing happen to it. The hose that connects the knob with the gas tank came loose. This was first noticed by the knob becoming loose. I asked hubby, who was finishing up mowing, what was up with that. He started to investigate, and couldn't see so he blew on it and that moved the hose completely off the knob which started a small fire melting the plastic knob and burning the black paint off the metal front. Good thing a garden hose was nearby. Meanwhile, I was trying to reach over the flames (I'm a short 5'2" so that was quite a feat) to remove the shish-k-bobs so that at least our meal could be salvaged. I did manage to do that before hubby put out the flames with the garden hose.

And so I was reminded at the end of the day of something from the epistle reading from Revelation 22 -- "Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!" And that's how the day ended with that upon my lips and in my mind.

And that reminded me of a friend of mine who often prays for the return of Jesus. She is a good friend and I am glad for her friendship. So the day ended nicely.
