Yesterday my daughter, S, and I attended a Passing the Baton seminar given my Dr. Jeff Myers (I've long recommended his weekly newsletters for homeschool support group leaders).
This seminar was FREE because it was being taped for the upcoming release due to be packaged and available in late March.
One of the things I've struggled with over the last several years has been that I was brought up in a Christian home, and yet, while the Christian life was modeled for me by my mother and by my father in the way they lived (that means they weren't perfect but I could see how they tried to live their faith), it wasn't discussed. And I had and have lots of questions! You know, the traditional Lutheran life-long catechical question, "What does that mean?"
During one of the sessions yesterday, Jeff remarked that what is discussed is important, what isn't discussed isn't important. He was trying to emphasize that we must have conversations with our children and those we mentor about our faith and how it affects our life.
The seminar was so practical and not filled with a bunch of fluff and stuff. I've always admired Dr. Jeff Myer's seminars as he seems to be pretty down to earth and isn't pious and doesn't claim to be an expert. He is a coach in the best sense of the word.
I'll be processing all of what I heard yesterday into a couple of upcoming Memo articles for homeschool support group leaders.
