Planning and Life

We've been getting ready for the new school year. It seems odd, I'm only preparing for two.

It's been fun planning for my 7-year-old because I've discovered lapbooking. We did a few lapbooks last year, the 6 days of creation, the human body, and early American explorers. I have big plans for more lapbooks this year. Plus I've been researching different ways to do them so we won't get bored or in a rut with the same old thing.

Meanwhile we're having parent generation health care situations. My father fell in his home and now will be going to a rehab facility for a while. His degenerative disc disease is giving him quite a bit of problems and near constant pain. His renal function (he only has one functioning kidney) is close to dipping below 30% and he's facing the possiblity of regular dialysis, something in the past he said he would not do. I don't know where his mind is about that matter right now.

My mother-in-law has endured a staph infection (mersa and others) since the beginning of August last year, three surgeries beginning in December of last year where her big toe was removed and then increments of her foot. Now her foot needs to be amputated and up into her leg somewhere between the ankle and her knee. She has lupus among a myriad of other ailments. She's been on prednisone since 1979, which in turn caused her to become diabetic. Her non-compliance with dietary needs as well as recovery suggetions (stay off your feet as much as possible and elevate the foot that had surgery) has quickly made the sitation worse and possibly life-threatening.

Heavy sigh. Heavy issues to deal with. Yuck!

I'm also the president of a homeschool support group and we're starting our meetings and activities back up soon. I've enjoyed the small reprieve of the summer, I wish it had been longer.

Good and happy news is that my niece and her husband are expecting their third child early next spring! I pray the Lord will grant her a healthy pregnancy and a healthy child!

I am also planning on doing some lapbooks with my granddaughters this year. We'll see if it actually happens since it isn't even September yet so all things are possible : )

We are down to one aging parent who still lives on her own. Her biggest challenge is that her memory is going. Blessedly my husband is one of 7 siblings and there are many grown grandchildren to help out.

Lapbooking intrigues me because this child loves to do crafty things and I want to get rid of the mountains of paper that can accumulate. Lapbooking seems like the answer to both those things.

How sad to have the memory fade. It's a long good-bye that way. My prayers will be with you as you face that challenge.
