Logistics

I previously posted about my children's marvelous attitudes and how grateful I was for them here.

This recently was exhibited when S had to give up working at the capitol* this legislative season due to us only having one working car and seven jobs between the four of us who are wage-earners. Thank heavens most of my three part-time jobs can be done in the comfort and convenience of my home -- but there are times I required to leave it to complete my responsibilities. Of course, hubby needs the car most days and evenings, too for that matter, to do his job. K needs it four times a week to get to and fro from her job at the library. S does her PAC work mostly from home.

So pardon me while I bask in the glow of a young lady whose maturity is dazzling me, and whose attitude is sparkling!

I love ya, sweetie! And I'm sorry you had to give up this part of your dream for now, but I'm proud of you for knowing that it's temporary. The above picture was taken for her first Christmas!

(*S has worked at the state capitol for the past four legislative seasons. She dearly wanted to again this season, but with us living so far away from it (over 70 miles one way), we just couldn't get it to work.)

Compassion

Today was a rather busy day, and S accompanied me to to a staff meeting in another town from where we live. She patiently waited and helped out in the homeschool office while the staff met.

Then we got to go see my niece and her boys! It was interesting to me as this is the first time I've seen them in "their" environment. What joy! Trains and ball abound!

I was so sad to hear that my niece's husband dislocated his knee on Sunday. Ouchie! Prayers for quick and complete healing would be appreciated.

On our way home we decided to stop for a "snack" at McD's. It was rush hour and things were hectic. I do hate driving in Denver most especially in rush hour!

S went into McD's to order and get our food and drinks, and I stayed in the car to call my hubby. When S returned she shared with me what had gone on inside.

She had already placed her order and was waiting for it when a man came in dressed like a construction worker. He was counting change in his hand. He asked how much a hamburger would be and the cashier told him, "88 cents." He said he only had 56 cents and when that was gone he wouldn't have any more money.

S offered to buy him a meal. He said that was nice, but no thank you. The manager was nearby and told the cashier to give him the hamburger gratis. He took that. S offered again, and told him she knew what it was like to be in need and sometimes we all just need a little help. He told her she was awfully young to have learned that. She told him that misfortune isn't a respecter of age. He was grateful for the hamburger and thanked the manager and cashier. And he thanked S for cheering him, and then he left.

As precarious as I know these last few years have been for all of us and how it's sometimes been difficult to learn to live in a completely different way, I am amazed and proud that S, a mere 18-years old, has a compassionate heart and is willing to share the little we do have with someone who is more in need.
