Thanks, Kelly Jean, Jelly Bean!

My friend has awarded me my first blog award, which makes me blush, and also makes me feel all fuzzy warm and stuff!

Thanks, friend!

A funny

I could say my oldest girlfriend sent me this in email... but that might make you think she's rather aged, and in fact, she's younger than me. By oldest I mean she and I have been friends for a long, long, time ... since we were teenagers -- before she could drive! We've known and loved each other since then, since before we knew our spouses, had our children, and suffered and survived the varieties of life. She's a sweet soul and I'm always glad to know she's my forever friend!

So, this tickled my funny bone, and I have no idea whom to credit for it. Perhaps you'll find it funny too!

COWS
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow.

THE CONSTITUTION
They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq. Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for over 200 years, and we're not using it anymore.

THE 10 COMMANDMENTS
The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this: You cannot post 'Thou Shalt Not Steal,' 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery,' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians. It creates a hostile work environment.

For Kelly

A friend loveth at all times.

When those we love hurt, we cannot help but reach out in compassion and try to soothe their aching hearts. And so, this is for my beloved friend, Kelly.

Girl, you know the Lord is always with you. He will never forsake you. No matter what trials you experience, He is with you.

Hopefully, this song will make you smile!

Real Life lately feeling like levels of Dante's Hell

Real life has been demanding lately.

My good friend Kelly is going thru a type of hell every parent wishes to avoid in that her oldest daughter has run away from home.

My oldest sister ran away from home several times before she did it for good, a few months before she graduated from high school. Several years later she got her GED and took a few college courses, but by then her life's pattern was established. She battles drug and alcohol addictions. She is sober for now and is an "ordained" minister after two weeks of intensive training in a "Jesus-only church." At least we know where she is and that she's alive. That's a special kind of hell when a loved one disappears and you know not where they are or even if they are alive.

My dad has been ill with pnemonia twice in the last two months after moving into an assisted living facility. He's been hospitalized twice, this time to remove a blood clot in his femoral artery and insert a stint. His heart isn't working up to snuff despite having a pacemaker. His intake of oxygen is now constant and at 4 liters per day, which means congestive heart failure. Dad's surgery is scheduled for Friday on the femoral artery.

My nieces are at their father's side because it seems the end is emminent for him. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in December that had metastacized to his pancreas, liver and intestines. One of those nieces is 30-weeks pregnant with her third son. Their dad is a Vietnam vet who served two tours there. He's been a good dad to those girls. And he's always been my favorite brother-in-law. We're praying for a peaceful death. My heart is breaking for my nieces as they uphold each other through this difficult time and watch their father slip away before he's even 60 years old. Man knows not his time.

Prayers for any and all of these situations would be appreciated. May the Lord's will be done.

Awkward -- what would you do?

So, I had a clandestine phone call from my friend this afternoon. She called me from her freezing garage in whispered tones.

My friend's family is entertaining a new young man friend of one of their daughters. It's a male friend whose expressed some interest in their daughter. Though they've never met in person, they have spent a lot of time together via electronic means.

So the young man enters their home and niceties are exchanged as this is the first time everyone is meeting each other. They sit down.

Their humongous dog takes a leak on the young man's pants. In his nervousness he acts like he doesn't notice. They act like they don't notice. But as soon as he leaves the room they clean up the pee from the floor in a secretive way so that no one is the wiser.

Well, what would you do? How would you have handled that?

As for me, I'm waiting by my phone for the next clandestine phone call from the garage.

In Stitches

Oh my goodness! I'm going to shameless promote my friend's (IRL - in real life) blog. She has a hilarious entry about a wooden spoon here. And then another one about brothers here. And another one about her proclivity about using public restrooms.

Enjoy! (Oh the picture above was taken by my daughter of Kelly one day this summer while she was barely living through a house renevation.)

My crazy friend

This post is about my friend Kelly and her crazy antics. She drug me along for an expose on the mannequins in stores. Some are more realistic than others. Some are freakish. Some are, well, obnoxious. (warning, hiney view).

But she scared the daylights out of me when the risk level didn't rise to her expectation and no sales associates or security officers were chasing us down for the unthinkable crime of photographing mannequins. Our husbands were glued to the boob tube watching the Denver Broncos finally play a game as if the offense and defense showed up. (Too bad I missed that!) They both thought we might get arrested. Our children were chuckling in delight at the prospect of having to pick us up from some holding cell. Pshaw! I had been thinking of an excuse just in case we were caught or asked to stop. I thought we should tell them we were doing a digital wish list for our husbands for Christmas. Kelly thinks I'm a dangerous, good liar.

Back to Kelly -- she had the idea to drop by the local police station and request that they take our mug shots. She wanted us to say it was for charity. Yea right, the charity of two middle-aged mommas trolling for some fun that wasn't too outlandish. Can you believe that?

Someone wondered if Homeland Security wouldn't be soon knocking on our doors. I wondered what the crime would be -- indecent exposure? Surely that doesn't rise to the level of threatening our security at home, or does it?

Narnia Watchers

Yesterday we hung out with some friends of ours. The girls were watching the "Chronicles of Narnia." I think the big ones are as entranced as the little one!
