On October 24, 1648 the Peace of Westphalia was signed, which, among other things, ended the Thirty Years War and made it possible for those once considered part of the Holy Roman Empire to exercise the freedom to practice the flavor of Christianity that the various rules of the various empires selected.
Not sure if this is something to celebrate or moan about. Either way... something we as Christians probably aught to know about in our history.
I do believe that this along with the signing of the Magna Charta were building blocks of thought that would eventually lead to the formation of the United States of America.
